Fan replacement for T42 Model C20

My T42 has a fan error, and I am looking for a new fan. Do I have to buy the same fan (FRU 41W5204) or can I replace it with another fan (ex FRU 13R2657)? Thank you for your help. I am anxious to have my computer up and running again.

I had this on a T42 fan which was quite stiff to turn.
I dripped some sewing machine oil between the top of the fan blades and little central circuit board and left it to soak for a couple of days.

After this the fan was almost fully free and no fan error.

T42 2373-C20

It's not stiff. I cleaned it out with some air, and it spins fine. Every time I start the computer up, the screen goes black, the computer beeps twice, and the screen reads "Fan Error." Then, the computer cuts off.

What's the 7-character model number of your ThinkPad? I might have one for you too...

My ThinkPad is 2378-FVU. But my location could be a problem, since I live in Czech Republic. But my father lives in Seattle, WA, so I might ask him if any of his friends aren't coming to Czech Rep. soon, or how much would the shipping be.

I have the correct fan for you. As for being in Czech Republic, I have no problem shipping there, and have sold a number of items to forum members in your country...
