Wouldn't it be great if recovery was a flash chip?

Without taking up space on the hard drive?? And without losing the partition if the hard drive dies (which is when you would usually need recovery the most)? Who knows, maybe they'll actually do it when flash memory becomes cheap enough to spare a few GB per laptop :P I for one would love it!

it would raise costs and where are you going to plug it in.>??
CD's are much better..
and the new system of making the set from your own recovery partition is good because you know it is fresh..
i.e. with all the recent bug fixes and so forth..

That's what imaging software and USB drives are for--and they back up YOUR configuration, not IBM's. :-)
