squeaking coils on MB near USB ports

#1 Post by Pawelek » Fri Oct 02, 2009 10:48 am

Hi !

Ever since I can remember my t43 has had squeaking problems with coils somewhere around USB ports. When it works on AC adaptor this squeaking is slightly reduced, but on battery I can hear it very well, especially when CPU switches to full performance. As far as I know some people switched off power management for USB ports (I guess it helps a little bit on XP, but currently I'm using Win 7 and it doesnt work). Is there any solution (except of buying new MB) for this. Have anyone had similar problem?

P.S Our t40 does the same but works with XP and I managed to reduce squeaking with the option mentioned above

"Coils" ??? If you mean a high-pitched sizzling from that general area, that's not uncommon. It's in the power supply but, unfortunately, it's difficult to fix!

Coil is an electronical part of motherboard and other expansion cards (not only) that is responsible for gathering energy in magnetical field. I know that squeaking is not uncommon but this really bothers me :(

If by "coil" you mean "inductor", OK. However, the part that usually causes a "sizzling" noise is a solid state oscillator in the PS.

By saying PS you mean external AC Adaptor or some circuits on mother board?
