guys...

i have an IBM Thinkpad T40, and i will be replacing my CMOS Battery (P/N: 92P0986), i inquired about this CMOS Battery and i was informed that i can use a CMOS Battery with another part no. 02K7078...

my question, is this compatible with my thinkpad t40?

with the many inputs here, i might have skipped the topic about this in case there is any so i just started this query.

Hi and welcome to the forums.

I believe that 02K7078 (which is used on R and X series) is compatible with 92P0986.

I suggest you wait for someone else to confirm though.

as you mentioned, 02K7078 is for another model, that is why i got confused when the supplier of CMOS Battery mentioned that it will work with my T40...

and yes, i'm eager to receive feedback for fellow thinkpad owners who in a way experienced this case...

(At least) from the A- and T-series onwards, all laptops use the same (CR2032) CMOS battery.
AFAIK they all also have the same connector (my T2x, T30, T4x, R5x, T6x batteries are all interchangeable)

hey, thanks RealBlackStuff...i was also thinking of the connector / connector port issue...

now that gives me 2-votes that i consider the replacement CMOS Batt. (P/N: 02K7078)...

if there will be other opinion i'm all ears guys...

All post-600 series ThinkPads (excluding R30/31 and TransNote) use the same CMOS battery, regardless of FRU number.

Connectors are the same as well.

How often do you need to replace the CMOS battery on the T40?
Mine is about 6 years old.

well, this will be the 1st time that i'll be replacing the CMOS battery...i got this t40 3-years ago already used from work...

the original owner gave this laptop when he gave up 'coz the HDD failed (crashed) on him (LOL)...so most probably this t40 is roughly between 4- to 5-years old...

recently, i've been seeing 0250, 0251 and 0271 errors...that's why i'm replacing the CMOS battery...

on the frequency aspect of replacing the CMOS battery, i guess after around 4 or 5 years depending if you receive error codes such as the ones that have been showing lately when i boot it.

They can last anywhere from 2-10 years.
When the date/time start to go 'funny' it is normally time to replace the CMOS battery.
