I have recently started to have my Thinkpad on my laptop sometimes although I usually use it on a desk. But, I was wondering whether the heat output is normal. It's not too hot to touch or uncomfortable at all but I would like to know opinions on this. I guess I just want to be assured it won't get worse or hotter later on. I believe the hottest temperatures or hottest areas are just underneath the touchpad and at the left hand side or left side ports where the LAN ethernet port and USB ports are. I think it's normal and my video card is an ATI Radeon Mobility 9000 RV250.
If I couldn't have it on my lap, then it would be a problem, right? Is that when owners are dreading their machine needing the infamous fixes or is that another issue or situation entirely?
Still, I'm very curious in learning what the scoop is regarding heat output from these Thinkpads (T4x series) and whether I need to be concerned or not. If you shop for one, can you do a test for the condition or is it mostly applicable to certain Thinkpad models and/or video cards? I understand the 'P' models are more prone to problems but can you inspect the condition by turning the machine on and feeling underneath or anything?
Thanks for any answers!
