repainting memory slot cover on t20?
repainting memory slot cover on t20?
ok weird question, but the paint on the memory slot cover and pci modem slot covers of my t20 have started peeling, the paint looks like some kind of latex/rubber coating, not just spray paint. anyone ever try repainting these? any suggestions on what to use?

try (on a piece of something OTHER than these covers) the same paint used on the flex car bumpers..

try an auto paint shop..

i don't THINK ibm sells a can of touch up paint..

I have painted those things.
1. Take the cover off the laptop.
2. Peel the rest of the paint off (gently with a scraper if need be).
3. Scuff the surface (rough steel wool or very fine sandpaper).
4. Clean thoroughly with a soft cloth.
5. Take the screw out (have to sometimes remove the C-clip)
6. Mask the tabs that weren't painted.
7. Spray with Tremclad Flat Black. I do two light coats.
8. Allow to dry thoroughly at least overnight. Replace the screw and install.
Works well, and the paint is available at most hardware outlets.

so then, I'm confused!

My 15" is definitely plastic (as opposed to ti, mg, or woven cf), and there is no "paint" to speak of since the plastic, like that on the rest of the case, is naturally black.eriqesque wrote: I've seen the top covers off of the machines and it's not plastic.
The complete underside is unpainted and you can see and it's not plastic.
The covers on my old T23 were metal (and this thread was about a T20) and they both needed painting in time. The covers on my old T30 were metal (but I never had to paint them). The cover (Ram only) on my T41 is plastic with shielding bonded underneath. I expect IBM got a lot of covers back and changed the design. ... JD Hurst
