upgrading my FVU (adding bluetooth)

#1 Post by byron » Mon Feb 14, 2005 12:33 pm

ordered parts:

1 13R2455 CLEAR PLAT $3.07 $3.07
1 91P7319 BMDC2 $57.50 $57.50

and just got this email from IBM:
We have received your IBM internet order, but unfortunately were unable to process it. Part number 91P7319 that you have requested has been replaced with part number 27R1880 at a price of $68.00. This Quoted Price is valid for THIRTY DAYS from the date of this Email. These prices are for the parts only; they do not include shipping and handling charges, which are $13.50, or applicable taxes. Your approval for purchase of the replacement part number is required to continue processing your order. Please contact us via email with your approval or cancellation request.

Thank you for using IBM's on-line parts ordering.
is the 27R1880 basically the same thing as the 91P7319? I don't mind the slight price hike.. i just want to make sure it will work.

That would definitely be nice... i'm waiting on him to reply. I asked him to explain the difference in the two. I can't say I have much faith in receiving a decent explaination.

I am not finding that part number anywhere.
PLEASE post the reply you receive ASAP, since I am about to order this upgrade myself.

Thanks,

both her and techical support claim the part is essentially the same, with the difference probably being a different manufacturer. No one would give me a flat out answer, but I'm fairly sure that if they list it as a replacement for 91P7319, I'm sure its basically the same thing. it is currently on backorder, I'll post more about it when I actually receive it.

hopefully the "backorder" status will be short lived.

on a different note i went ahead and added a touchpad-less palm rest to my order. figured i might as well get rid of my touchpad while i've got the palmrest off. :D

got the clear plate pack and my touchpad-less palm rest today... went ahead and swapped out the clear plates for the ones with the bluetooth icon. i'm gonna wait until i get the bluetooth MDC to swap out the palmrest. i will update this thread pictures of the substitute part and any info i find when the part arrives.

checked with IBM parts today... they told me they don't expect to be able to fill my order until May! that is very disappointing to say the least. I have been very happy with IBM so far, but not being able to get a part for 3 months is a bit ridiculous.

91P7319 was out of stock very frequently back then too. It doesn't make sense for IBM to discontinue it before the new part has solid supply. Let just hope that IBM is being too conservative again.

The bluetooth cards change FRUs all the time so it is probably just a matter of finding the newest?

i spoke to a manager a couple days ago and she called me again today... from what i understand they dont' carry the 91P7319 any longer and are replacing it with the 27R1880, but that part hasn't even been approved for usage by the manufacturer yet. i find that extremely hard to believe that a reputable company such as IBM would conduct business this way.. so i'm hoping she is wrong.

Will IBM will give a discount if we exchange the existing modem card (93P4166) with the new bluetooth card?
There is a parts exchange program, right?

This modem card costs 22$. It will be nice if IBM will sell the bluetooth card for (57-22 = 35 bucks).

Also, does anyone know what range this is? like 1m, 10m or 100m?

thanks.

just received the following email from IBM Parts:
On February 14, 2005 , an order was placed with IBM.com Out of Warranty parts for a Bluetooth wireless card. Our department had then contacted you in reference to a substitute that had been issued for this part. The new part number established was 27R1880. Unfortunately this was a mistake because of manufacturing issues with IBM. 27r1880 will not be available. IBM now recommends ordering the original part number of 93p3471. This part is priced at $67.50 and will be available in the next 7-10 days for shipment. We do apologize for the confusion and any frustration we may have caused. If you would like to reorder the original part of 93p3471, please let us know. We can be reached at 1-800-765-5944 and ask for Miranda or you may reply to this email. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
hopefully i will have the bluetooth MDC in my hands in the next couple weeks.
