Problem reading DVDs

Hi,

I just bought a ThinkPad and been having trouble reading my data backups that i burned on dvd (using my desktop). Those disks read fine on other drives. I have tried other media (cds, cdrs, dvd movies) and they all seem to work.

The drive i have is the CDRW/DVD combo drive

Anyone aware of this kind of problem?

What format did you burn the DVDs in?

sorry, I'm not sure what you're asking. They're burned as data, single layer, DVDR-

Primarily if they were -R or +R.

The combo drives have been known to have some problems with +R burned discs, but I can't really think of any particular reason why you're having difficulties, sorry.

well i just tried a DVD+R and it looks like it works, so either it can't read DVD-R (I tried several brands), or my burner is crap.

ok does anyone have a combo drive that would read -R discs? if so what is the model # ?

Reads -R/+R fine. HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4242N

I have a FVU, sometimes, it will not read the DVD-R at first time, I have to open/close the DVD drive, then it will read the DVD-R. Strange?
