is bluetooth a CRU?

#1 Post by edelrc » Tue Jun 08, 2004 11:21 pm

I am leaning to get through Bill the 2373-7XU. However, this unit does not have Bluetooh. Does any one knows is I can replace the modem to contain it? How much it will cost?

2373-7XU doesn't have a Bluetooth antenna in the LCD. So the answer is no, it's not CRU.

Thanks G-man. You just took out my dreamed 2373-7XU out of being a candidate. But this information is preceless for me to make a decision.

Sorry for the bad news. What about a Bluetooth PC Card? I know the antenna sticks out a little, but at least you have it.

The 2379DYU has the Bluetooth built in.
Is it that much more expensive than the original one you wanted.
everything else is the same.

You're right

You both are right!

Well the DYU is the same as the one I wanted (7XU) and Bill's price and MasterCard price puts them around same price.

Why not a PCMCIA card? well, because I should not need that after I am expending $3000+!

Thank you both!

edelrc,

FWIW, my ThinkPad did not come with Bluetooth but I changed my modem out for the BT modem and installed the antenna and it's working great now. It's not as easy as a CRU (lots more screws) but if you are comfortable disassembling a laptop it should be no problem. There are no wound springs that will pop out at you. :D

Of course, the modem and antenna cost in excess of $100, so it might be cheaper to go with the other laptop.

If you install the Bluetooth antenna in the LCD (and IBM finds out) you will be voiding the warranty.
