Messed-up Java on T42P?

#1 Post by Marc_G » Tue Feb 15, 2005 4:03 pm

Hi folks-

Those of you following my recent posts know that I'm the happy owner of a new T42P.

One irritation I'm having trouble getting around is that there is some weird Java blocking thing going on. For example, if I use IE to go to:

wdc.speakeasy.net

which has a connectivity speed test, instead of the speed test applet I get a little Java icon. Something is blocking the execution of the applet. I've gone through the IE settings and nothing says Java is blocked.

There is an IBM Java WebStart program, but I don't know what it does... seems to be an empty repository of Java prgrams, and there is an IBM Java Console (?) that comes up as a control panel and as an option in IE Tools.

Huh. Not sure how much of this is Thinkpad-specific new stuff, and how much relates to SP2.

Help! I just want to be able to run Java applets the way I always did...

do you use the microsoft VM? all of speakeasy's tests need the Sun JAVA VM. I also, uninstalled the IBM Java VM that came preloaded and updated to the lastest release from Sun.

i use nyc.speakeasy.net quite often.... i've never had a problem. but i don't use IE, so i might not be a good comparison.

Thanks Byron. I went to the sun site and downloaded version 1.50. Things seem to be working now.
