swapping hdd between T41p

#1 Post by ashat » Tue Nov 03, 2009 4:54 pm

Hi all,

I currently have two exactly equal T41p (2374-GGG), apart from 512Mb ram in one and 1Giga in the other.
One is mine (very intensive use) the other is of my mother/brother (occasional use, and at 1024x768!).

Both have been bought used, the mine 6 months before the other one. On the mine I did a fresh install of WinXPPro with the Lenovo-CD set, the other came with an installation of WinXPPro of the previous owner with some additional Microsoft Office suite, and I decide not to touch it.

The mine is developing some issue, a bit annoying for intense use: the LCD looks a bit dark, reddish/pinkish on initial boot and the fan starts doing some noise when the wireless card is on (probably should be cleaned). The other one looks less used, a very brilliant LCD, and no fan noise.

So my question is:
is there any problem in swapping the HDD between them, and eventually moving the additional RAM?

I was considering swapping the LCD, but it looks a too hard task for me.

I would like an operation that gives me both machines immediately working without any further problem of reinstalling and configuring.

Is there any preliminary check I should do?

thanks a lot in advance,

A.

You can swap the disks and RAM with no issues.

LCD that is reddish has a failing backlight (CCFL). Although the backlight is replaceable, it's a PITA job.

Hope this helps.
