Just picked up a T43 with problem

I just picked up a mint shape T43 (2668-44U).Not a mark on it,keyboard like new,the whole system is like new.The guy said there is a charging problem with it.I picked it up for a great price.
He said the orginal 6 cell bat needed replaceing so he picked up another new ibm 6 cell battery.The orginal shows 257cycles with 7.25Wh full capacity.Not good.But it showed it as charging. The new battery he bought shows 11cycles with 47.56Wh full capacity.In the green.But it's at 0.00 and not charging.The date is 2005 with first use at 2006-02.
This is a orginal ibm battery.
Is it posible that this battery was sitting for years not in use and now no longer able to charge?
I have a old 9 cell , non-ibm battery that is acking strange.But is working.Will charge to 100% then go down to 60% then jump to 0%.But this one will charge back up.So i dont think it's the laptop.I just think it's a bad battery's.

Your T43 can charge 2 out of 3 batteries. I'd try another known working battery as a test. Borrow one if you have to.

That's a matter when you buy an old laptop, the battery is almost dead. It happened with my T43P, and I am considering to get an OEM battery on Ebay.

Turns out the new battery the last owner bought , was a old stock.I put that battery in another system and same thing.It's stuck at 0.00Wh's and not charging.To bad because this battery info says it's a great battery.Almost new.But if it dont charge it's not much good.
On a good note , the laptop is working fine.It charges up batterys fine,and runs off the batterys fine.
Few more tests and might have to look for a good battery for it.
