is it worth the effort Win 7 on T43 ?

#1 Post by danny_isr » Sat Nov 21, 2009 3:43 pm

I'm debating if i should go for this ?
i have a T43 X300, 1G ram , 2GHz CPU. and wonder how Win 7 will work on it ?

1) will Aero work on it , and good ?
2) Should i upgrade to 2G -if yes -> any recommendation of which mem and where to buy ?
3) Anyone has the Win 7 RC 32bit? i have the 64bit on my T61 but obviously it wont work on the T43.

thanks Dan

Aero will run fine, but I'd suggest maxing the RAM out.

I've been quite happy with W7 on my past T43/p units.

Win7 RC is 'hitched' to a personal Key from M$.
If it has been installed and registered, a copy won't work on another machine.

I have Win7 running on a T43 with ATI X300 graphics, 2GB RAM and 60GB HDD. Aero runs but I choose not to use it to save on speed and battery power. I love Win7 and highly recommend the upgrade. I previously ran XP and Vista on this machine, and the best way I can describe the Win7 experience is, "Almost the speed of XP with a more logical UI than Vista".

Best regards,

I have a T43, ATI X300, 1G ram (soon to be 2GB), 1.83GHz CPU and 60GB HD
Windows 7 (RC 7100) runs really good on it... I'm actually pleasantly surprised

Full Areo with some desktop Gadgets ... runs smooth
Ive updated all the drivers on it using System Update 4.0, all seems to be well in LT land

Win7 prof x32 on T43 14.1 inch 1.8 mhtz with intel 64GB SSD;2 gb Ram FPreader & instel Pro Wireless
http://www.intel.com/design/flash/nand/ ... /index.htm

Clean Install of Win 7 and issue i got was ThinkVantage Fingureprint reader would work on "BOOTUP" password stage but i knew that before I started - due to bios on these laptops. I am too lazy to fix it since GF doest have any complains with using it the way it is. Mostly netsurfing @ home - nothing major every came up during install and rest of drivers were updated via windows and or ThinkVantage System Update.

Theres lots of people here who have upgraded to SSDs on various T Series , search forum for those posts

Win7 with SSD = super cool even on T4x with older CPU/Buss/DRams.. but its no workhorse for 'business' Apps, in my view.

well did it. works great.
the funny part i found out that the memories from my T61p fits my old T43. so i upgraded it to 2G with the T61 mems.
and getting 4G to my T61 now.

everything works, except the blue thinkvantage button. is that works for you guys ?
performance is good. the only thing i noticed that is slower then XP is when i tried to watch a Netflix steaming movie.
on XP it was smooth , and a bit choppy on the Win 7.
but hey it's a new machine now.

ah yeah one more thing. i installed NHC to downvolt like i use to do with XP. it does work. but in many cases when
i touched the ATI clock speeds. to switch between full speed to slower one i got a blue screen.
not sure why.
