This is the result of a replaced MB where the tech did not update the BIOS with the machine type info. When running Thinkvantage Software Installer/System Update I get the "Invalid Machine Type" error immediately. In the past I fixed this by editing three registry keys: HKLM/HARDWARE/ACPI/DSDT, FADT and RSDT. Two folders down from each is a folder called "TP-1Y__"; if I replace this with the machine type, "2668Q2U" in my case, it then works the next time I run the updater. I just performed a factory restore and this is now not working.
Questions:
1) Are there other registry keys that I need to edit to get this working?
2) I've never been able to get these three registry keys to save their values between reboots, any suggestions for how to get these edits to save permanently?
3) I know that I need to solve the BIOS issue but don't want to deal with sending it in. Can someone e-mail me the "IBM Hardware Maintenance Utility" for the T43p so I can fix this myself?
Thanks for any help!
