T42 dvd drive driver

Had to do a clean load on my HD. Loaded XP pro, working great except the driver for the dvd burner is not found. Tried putting the dvd/ cdrw drive in and it doesn't find a driver for it either. Both drives show up in device manager but can't find the drivers! I'm know my way around pc's but this has me baffled. Where are the drivers hiding? Can't put a disk in cuz it won't play..any ideas? thanks in advance, Cory

There's no dvd driver. It should be included with XP. You might want to try deleting the secondary IDE drivers in device manager. Windows will re-install them when rebooted.

Well, I tried that but came up with the same exact problem still. Any other ideas? I'd reload XP but the drive won't work without the driver! HMMM, one of those catch 22's

Try a Linux Live CD. If it works, you've got a software issue somewhere.
