has anyone ever discovered a way to replace the logo and set the BIOS password so that when it boots up, my contact information would be displayed on the password request screen?... IMO, this would be the greatest use... I set my BIOS Password for security, but if my Thinkpad was lost or stolen, I would want my personal return information displayed on the screen that requests a password....

That could help you:

but newer tested and I wouldn't, because you can mess up your system.

That's the standard splash screen that many of us have replaced. It works well and if you like the idea, there's a monster thread in the archives about it and how to get it done.jeeva wrote:That could help you:

He's asking about the blank text screen that shows up after the splash. I'd also like to get my name/contact info on it, but I don't think it can be done without a custom bios.
IBM ThinkPad T42p (2373-7XU): 1.8GHz/1024MB, 15" UXGA, DVD-RW, 80GB, 2200b/g.
T42 (2374-3VU): 1.7GHz/512MB, 14.1"SXGA+, DVD-RW, 80GB, 2200b/g.

yes, that is what I'm looking for... owner information on boot-up is so obviously useful that I'm surprised IBM hasn't supplied this or that someone hasn't figured out how to do it.....Kenn wrote:That's the standard splash screen that many of us have replaced. If you want the information to show up on the password prompt screen then, it can be done the following way.
The image which you see, like a small person, or a computer icon requesting the password, is a graphic image, phoenix graphic image type.
If that image can be replaced with a image which shows your personal information it can be done.
The major problem here is , first you need to decompose the bios using phoenix bios editor or phnxdeco, ( both of them mess up extracting the security and finger print rom's in the bios ) . But one can manually identify them and edit the rom.scr, which prepare uses to generate the mod files can be fixed.
After this you need catenate , which can compress these mod, into the 1024 KB bios image file, now the problem lies here, all the free versions available out there, cannot compress these security mods, it gets confused.
The free version of catenate is 2.04 , but it says you need 2.94 or higher to sucessfully compress.
If someone has a later version of catenate, this can be attempted , whether it will be a sucess or failure can be told only after being able to compress the mods.
