BIOS / ECP Update without Floppy Drive

#1 Post by ZAPnDUSTER » Wed Nov 25, 2009 1:30 pm

Hello,

is there any way how to upgrade BIOS & ECP without floppy drive?

I have a bootable USB Disk, works fine.

I just can't get the BIOS file for my T42 2373-2VG to unpack in order to upgrade :help:

Don't have any disk drive on my PC or Laptop (anymore) :(

Any help welcome

Welcome to the Forum.
You can download a version to run from within Windows. No need for a floppy.
BIOS: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-50273
ECP: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-50279

Gee - thanks

BIOS Update worked fine, great

But: ECP update starts, reboots and screen show strange block graphics in different colors (changing sprites), looks very unusual?

Remove the 3 screws for the keyboard (on 15" models, for 14.1" there are 4 screws) from the bottom.
Lift up the keyboard at the front, but leave it connected.
on the right hand side of the CPU you'll find the GPU, maybe partly covered by the cooling fan.
Press on the GPU while booting (boot each time while pressing on a different spot), to see if the picture is now clear.
If the picture is now OK, you probably have a loose GPU.

This is NOT a result of updating BIOS and/or ECP, but something that has been lurking already for a while!
