Thinkpad T42 & a Ultrabay Slim HDD Adapter & 80gb hdd

#1 Post by goldie » Fri Nov 27, 2009 3:46 pm

Hi, I have a Thinkpad T42 & have fitted a Ultrabay Slim HDD Adapter and additional 80GB hard disk drive .

My problem is that it is not "functional" ........ ie it is recognized in "system/Device manager" But in "my computer" it says that it is a DVD Drive (F) .. & I Cannot Access it...not quite what I was expecting!

Putting back the CD-RW/DVD player gives me DVD Drive (D)

Any help please

Regards

Welcome to the Forum.
Check in your BIOS under Startup, if any drives are excluded. If that is (likely) the case, activate them.

PS: and I like Murphy's as well!

Did as suggested & the below comes up :-

Boot Priority Order:

1 USB Floppy Drives
2 Legacy Floppy Drives
3 Atapi CD0:
4 USB CD:
5 IDE HDD0: Toshiba MK3021GAS-(PM)
6 PCI Lan IBA GE Slot 0208 v1217
7 -USB HDD
8 IDE HDD1: WDC WD800BEVE-22UYTO-(SM)

Exclude from boot order:

: IDE HDD2
: ATAPI CD1 :

Still seen as CD/DVD Drive in "my computer" .... Also this is a New Caddy & HDD & I don't know if the Hdd is formatted...Would this make any difference?
Any Ideas ...

Since you don't have/use a CD/DVD drive, move #3, #5 and #8 up in the BIOS/Startup, using F5 or F6.
New order:
1 Atapi CD0 (in case you want to boot from a CD in future)
2 IDE HDD0: Toshiba MK3021GAS-(PM)
3 IDE HDD1: WDC WD800BEVE-22UYTO-(SM)
4
5
6
7
8 unimportant what sequence for 4-8.

When you start up in windows, click on Start/Run, type in: diskmgmt.msc and click OK.
If you 'see' the second hard drive in the Diskmanagement screen, richtclick on 'Disk 1' to initialize it.
Then rightclick on the next field to the right to format it in NTFS.

Sir, you are our Hero ! ....... I did hit the Guiness, ..this hdd/caddy had done my head in. It's now 2.10 a.m & if if it hadn't been for your help & herself's perseverance it would still not be up-&-running ! :)

Many Many Thanks.

( And as herself said , I should have asked for help a few days ago instead of floundering around getting no-where fast ! )

Kind Regards

Time to take herself to Kinsale and celebrate!
Many moons ago I "did the round" there, having a pint of the black stuff in every single pub, all in one day!
