[T41]Screen rotation on external(DVI) 1920x1200 w/Mini Dock?

I have:
- T41 with ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 (32mb RAM), 14.1" 1400x1050.
- Windows XP SP2
- Mini Dock

I want to add:
- An external LCD monitor, 24" 16:10, native resolution 1920x1200.
- I want to drive the external monitor at 1920x1200 simultaneous with the built-in LCD running at 1400x1050.
- I would like to be able to pivot (rotate) the screen sideways into portrait mode from time to time.

My research says I can drive this resolution via the DVI-D port of the Mini Dock, if I uninstall the ATI video drivers, and instead install the proper version of the Omega drivers, or get the proper version of the ATI Catalyst drivers and modify them myself with DHModTool (a.k.a. Mobility Modder). The last version that supports my model/graphics card is ATI Catalyst 6.5, which is in the Omega Driver v3.8.252.

It's also been suggested that in order to get this resolution working, I have to make sure my DVI cable is short enough (i.e. 3.3 feet or shorter), such as the Monster Cable DVI400-1M.

Questions:
- Am I right about the above? Will everything work?
- How do I get screen rotation working on the external monitor? My research suggests that using drivers supplied by the monitor manufacturers might be a bad idea, or not even work. Will the Omega drivers enable support for rotation? Will Presentation Director support it?
- In particular, has anyone with a T41 w/Radeon 9000 and a Mini Dock successfully done this? I've heard positive stories about getting 1920x1200 working with the DVI, but no stories about also getting screen rotation working with the same setup.

I'm looking at monitors like the Dell UltraSharp U2410 (IPS), HP LA2405wg (TN), etc.

Thanks for any help/confirmation! I'd hate to spend $500 on a monitor only to find out I can't pivot it after all. And I don't want to get stuck with widescreen-only landscape mode...what a bad screen shape for reading and coding!
