Have the Waterfield model numbers changed???
I ask because lfeagan says that he got a "Size 15 horizontal" and then later on he says "Ah yes, I should have mentioned that I got a size 5 horizontal."
BUT, if you check Waterfield's website, it lists a Size 11 for the T42 with or without the extended battery.
Again, has something changed????
That is THREE DIFFERENT SIZE NUMBERS for the SAME Notebook!!!????

Thanks,
Andrew

His horizontal model can fit both 6-cell and 9-cell battery perfectly and with the vertical orientation it's a tight fit, but juuust okay, with the 9-cell. From the pictures, the SleeveCase looks slightly more bulky, but not by much and it's probably due to the extra ballistic nylon cover over the neoprene (imho slightly better protection).

I think a few months back, they redid some of their sizes. The new sizes should fit better than the old ones. I myself have a size 6 vertical (no extras), that I put in my backpack. It fits the 6-cell perfectly, but the 9-cell's a little tight.

Waterfield's service is pretty good, so feel free to email them. Also, they're pretty good about exchanging for different sizes too.

Yeah, that is *not* my doing with the random numbering changes they seemed to be undergoing. Just use whaterver they say works and/or email them and ask.

Yeah, well they are saying that an 11 fits both extended and regular battery, so it must be oversized for the regular battery...wouldn't seem to be any way around that.

Thanks for the information!

So about the Japanese sleeve: Who wants one? Maybe if enough of us want it and are willing to pay, we can get it through Bill or maybe we can even find a vendor that has them. If there was a way to get one in the US, I'd DEFINATELY go for it. Who else is up for it?

I think this is "enterprising" but is being gone about in the wrong way.
First, we do not have a source. Nobody has contacted Bill to ask, but I doubt he can import them. Somebody would have to import them, pay the duty, etc. To do that, he has to have an exporter. You can not organize a group buy if you don't have a vendor or a price. There have ALWAYS been items available in Japan that are not available here. You can not just simply buy them somewhere. Some items are not for export, and can not be setup for export, period. That's the way such commerce works. Stuff intended to get to the states gets here, other stuff does not, with very little exception.
If someone can get them, THEN we can ascertain interest, until then, it is a dead issue.

I do realize that this is "soft goods" and not electronics, so the "black/grey market" issue is moot, but you still need someone to export/import.

In the "close but no cookie" category, my Japanese colleague found this alternative:

Not quite the same, but at least it has the right colours :P

Does anybody have a picture of this?

Sounds like it might also be pretty nice.

One of our senior's father (from my school) works for IBM Japan. I'll inquire and see what he can find out about the sleeve in question. I just got back from a trip over there and wish I had seen this post before I went, or while I was there and I would have inquired while I was there. As it is now, I'll have to ask him by email. Maybe we'll strike gold yet. I too would like one of these sleeves!

Looks heavy.

Speaking as someone who lugged a TP and as much other stuff as could be fitted into a backpack for years and is now reaping the consequences, protect your back and shoulders. They'll be around longer than the TP will.

I emailed my student's father (mentioned in above post) about the sleeve that they are giving away with the purchase of a "T" series Thinkpad in Japan and he emailed me back telling me that they are all the rage over there and that even company employees can't get them unless they buy a computer :( Worth a try, but I doubt the guy on eBay will be able to get one either.

Maybe there is something a tad off with me, but why are all the cooler IBM products headed to Japan? The PC110, the S3X Series, that IBM Sleeve, etc. I mean, I know the design of the Thinkpad woas inspired there, by a japanese lunchbox, and they have a very large research facility over there....but really, spread some of the Cool around ( :) ); that sleeve is awesome.

Had I known that was out there, I would have tried to snap it up *immediately*

I guess I can wait and then find a reason for it. ;) :)
