T43 won't boot unless battery is removed

#1 Post by jamnkats » Thu Dec 10, 2009 10:16 am

Any idea what this could be? Came out of the blue - safe mode shows it hangs up on AVG driver but that can't be solved by removing the battery. As long as I remove the battery and run on just AC it seems to work fine. Can anyone point me in a direction? It is a 1871-4BU

T30 2366-81U still works but not being currently used. I think I'll rectify that situation.

(2) T42 2373-JXU with Flexview LCDs. One with either GPU or southbridge issue.
T43 2687-D4U with possible software problem. Awaiting R&Rs.

I would try another battery and see if anything changes. Also try the T43 battery in another T4x to see if it works.

I've tried a battery from a T42 in the T43 and the T43 seems to work fine. I can keep working with batteries, but is it possible that the entire hangup on startup is just the battery or should I be looking at something else?

It's VERY possible. My X60 would freeze at XP logo screen with the old, defective battery, does no such thing without the battery inserted, or with a good one installed.

To confirm the battery problem try the suspect battery in the T42. If the problem moves to the T42 you have narrowed the problem down.

thanks guys. I couldn't believe the startup problem could be related to the battery so I didn't even pursue troubleshooting it. The suspect battery seems to be working in one of the T42s so I guess I have more work to do.
