I've got a T42 and the wireless isn't working. I recently wiped out the harddrive and downloaded what drivers I thought I would need from IBM's site. Any help would be great! I'll give you more info if needed.

My wireless is not working (T42)
Hi, I'm new to the forum here and to the IBMs (and not quite the knowlagable type
).
I've got a T42 and the wireless isn't working. I recently wiped out the harddrive and downloaded what drivers I thought I would need from IBM's site. Any help would be great! I'll give you more info if needed.

Re: My wireless is not working (T42)
There is not much to go on here. As a general reply, wireless on any T4x machine can be made to work exceptionally well.
What wireless network card do you have? What driver (version number) is installed? Does Device Manager recognize the installation? Is a newer version available (especially necessary for an Intel 2100bg card)? What is not working (no connection, connect but no browse)?

I don't know which card is there or how to find it without taking it apart, the FRU # is13N5097, Product ID 2379RFU. I haven't messed with anything because it worked before.

It should be an IBM/Atheros 11abg card. This driver should work:

How do I find the card I have without taking apart the computer? The computer does not register with the card that's in there, or anything to do with wireless.jdhurst wrote:There is not much to go on here. As a general reply, wireless on any T4x machine can be made to work exceptionally well.

Re: My wireless is not working (T42)
Run Device Manager (Control Panel) and expand Network Devices. It should tell you in there what make and roughly what model the card is. Then go to the IBM / Lenovo Support Site, put your complete Thinkpad model in there, then go to drivers, network drivers and look for the card you found in Device Manager. You should not have to take the computer apart. ... JDH

Doenloading and running a driver from Lenovo only extracts the files into a subdirectory of C:\Drivers\xxxx
You also need to run the file setup.exe in this xxxx directory!

True! I neglected to mention that. I just assume people will see that the download has not executed.
In Windows 7, 90% or more of these downloads now have a check box to install automatically after you run the download to install it. It is a nice touch for people like me who are superbly well organized. I can park things where I know about (and Lenovo does not) and then the install goes automatically. Very Nice.
