Did clean install...video driver question

#1 Post by aamsel » Sat Feb 19, 2005 12:25 am

I just did a clean install on my 2378FVU and installed the Radeon drivers from the driver matrix on the IBM site. It installed the ATI driver OK, but the Advanced Display Properties don't have the extra 5 ATI tabs.
Did I miss something??
Where do I get that stuff???

Thanks,
Andrew

I suggest you install the ATI_Nov_04.exe driver that can be found at Bill's ftp site: ftp://thinkpads.com/pub/

This is the only IBM-released driver set that supports 1600x1200 on the dock's DVI port. It's probably the best driver for the T42(p)

Thanks.
I don't care about the hig-res dock support.

Does this one give you the additional ATI tabs (like the 2378FVU came with from the factory)????
That is what I want to get back.

Thank you!

Anyone know how to get the ATI tabs back in the Advanced Display Adapter properties.

I am talking about the ones that say "ATI Powerplay, ATI OpenGL, ATI Direct3D, ATI Displays, ATI Color, ATI Overlay, ATI Options". ??????

Thanks,

Andrew

I would try the omega drivers. That's what i have on my fvu and it works flawless. I have all the tabs that you are talking about. But instead of ATI**** they are Omega****

Hi Andrew

The tabs you are talking about come from the ATI Control Panel software. They are located in the folder C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\Control

If you are missing the tabs, I suggest that you download the corresponding drivers for your GPU from the ATI website. They have one package (apprx 29 MB) containing the control panel and gpu dirvers.

Uninstall everything related to ATI from your system, delete the directory mentioned above. Reboot your system, starting with the default Windows drivers and then install the software you have downloaded from ATI.

Well, I don't think those ATI drivers you mention are for MOBILE applications.
ATI's website clearly says that you need to get drivers and utilities for mobile (notebook) applications from the notebook manufacturer.
I think the ones you pointed me to are for desktop applications.

SPECIFICALLY, I am asking (anyone)...
WHERE is the ATI Control Panel application available for download on IBM's website?

The ATI Control Panel features you want are part of the single IBM Video drivers download. I did a clean install on my T42p, loaded the video driver from the IBM site, and all the tabs you want were installed.

Suggest you uninstall the existing ATI and video drivers you have and try to reload them again.

I got mine from the download matrix at:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-55386
Where should I get them, and what is the file name?
Thanks a lot!!!!

I figured it out.
I had simply pointed the system to the driver in the ATI directory, instead of running SETUP.
That took care of it.

Thanks,
