sigh..

crap. does this mean i can expect it to die in 12 months?

ibm wont allow you to purchase an extension to bring it up to 3 years for some reason.. do they know something about the components that we dont?

:(

that link doesnt work.

at all of the locations on IBMs website where you can purchase warranty extensions, they list every notebook for the past 3 years EXCEPT the t42.

i dont get it?

the link doesnt work because the URL contains unique identifiers that match with the ibm cookie set during your visit.

my machine doesnt have that cookie, therefore the link wont work. :(

where did you manage to find a t42 extended warranty? i couldnt find it on the website, and when i called ibm the person i spoke to said she couldnt find anything either.

1. go to ibm.com

2. put 2378-fvu in the search box

3. click on the second link in your results

4. scroll to the bottom part of the page and look at the multitude of warranty upgrades available for that machine

5. don't believe much of what IBM Telesalse Reps. tell you

There are no warranty upgrades whatsoever listed at the bottom of the page you describe.

And in all the forms elsewhere at IBM.com where you CAN purchase warranty upgrades, the "T42" model is absent from the pulldown menu lists.

If it's just a web glitch, it's a glitch they made on every page and form they have.

Well, put your location in your profile (and anyone who sees this, put it in your own if it's not there), but on the servers I connect to, it is there...

In any case, whats the issue? Buy a T42 if you want, tell them you want to extend the warranty, if you get a "dummy", ask to speak to a supervisor, and you will be all set!

No, it just means that the website hasn't been updated. I know of dozens of T42s, including model 2378s, that have had their warranties extended.

Call IBM, they'll be happy to take your money and extend your warranty, provided the unit isn't a refurb.

If this is for a "personal use" Thinkpad, go here: http://www-132.ibm.com/content/home/sto ... sonal.html

and select a model 2378 T41 in the drop down under Notebooks for the pricing and options. Best value is 5 years of EZServe (depot) coverage for $349.
