2nd Hard Drive won't eject...

#1 Post by Bg357 » Sat Jan 02, 2010 6:13 am

I have a T42 with an Ultrabay 2nd HDD adapter. A Toshiba 40gb drive is in the adapter tray. The computer works fine with the hard drive but the problem comes when trying to eject the 2nd hard drive. When trying to eject, I keep getting the message, "device cannot be stopped right now, please try again later". As far as I know, it's not being accessed by any other progam, but it won't give me the go ahead to eject the drive. A lot of the time, the little green light on the tray is lit, but sometimes the light goes out and it still won't stop the device. I can also hear the drive running all the time.

Any ideas on how I can stop this drive so that it can safely be ejected? Thanks.

It being a Toshiba, it's probably on its last legs... They were never very good.
Switch off the laptop, then remove the adapter/drive.
Check the Tosh via e.g. a USB enclosure for problems with CHKDSK and similar.

Usually virus software will prevent this from happening. try stopping it first. If you have windows explorer open on the drive this can cause it to.
