THinkvantage update wants machine type ...?
I have a nicely working T41.Only that the previous user somehow spoiled the machine type while doing a bios update.I was told that I have to run phonex bios update utilityfrom Lenovo.
How do I get it?.
I just want to feed the values required so that update works, so what values I should collect to supply to the programas Input?.
I have T41 2374 - 7FU (HD,Memory,CPU all changed ...)

Hello T400plus,
If you should run the bios update, don't forget to update the embedded controller too (you can find a link to the EC-update on this page).
The bios update utility also allows you to update the model number.
Happy flashing!
you can download it from the IBM/Lenovo website, here is the link: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-50273.How do I get it?.

Re: Thinkvantage update wants machine type ...?
The bios update program displays a - in the centre of the field and allows me to enter only 3 characters after that(probably for the model).
Any other program??
I just want the update program running(Till now I used to just download all individually).

Yes, USB Floppy drive is a must.
Had been trying two whole nights with USB flash disk, HMD won't work on it.

Here is a small tutorial how I got HMD running on an 8GB Sandisk Cruzer flash drive.
Download Hardware Maintenance Disk v1.76 and extract the HMD to a floppy disk or use Virtual Floppy Drive (VFD) if you don't own a floppy drive.
Download Windows 98 System Files and extract the ZIP to a folder win98boot.
Download the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool and install it to the default folder C:\DriveKey.
Go to folder C:\DriveKey and start HPUSBFW.EXE.
Remove your flash drive, power on your tp, hit F12 and boot from the flash drive.
If everything went well you will see a message and a command prompt C>.
Now enter COMMAND.COM and hit enter.
