How to stop the blue screen of death

#1 Post by Skysurfer » Wed Jan 06, 2010 5:32 pm

I've have a T43 for a few years now and suddenly I started getting the BSOD today every time I popped in a DVD or CD-RW. How can I fix this? Reinstall a driver? (If so, where can I download it?) Or...<gulp>...reformat C:?

Happy New Year!

How about trying another drive?
Drivers don't cause these problems.

A few of the disks work in the T43 and all of the disks work in a T60 I borrowed. There doesn't seem to be a pattern as to which disks the T43 will handle, but the machine did work with all of them not too long ago.

What do you recommend?

Thanks!

1) It would help to know what the Bluescreen actually says...
2) As RBS suggested, try to determine whether the drive is faulty. Borrow that T60 again, and swap the Ultrabay drives between the two machines. Then see if those disk that failed to read in your T43 work when:
* In the T60 inside your drive
* In the T43 inside the T60 drive
Current: X220 4291-4BG, T410 2537-R46, T60 1952-F76, T60 2007-QPG, T42 2373-F7G
Collectibles: T430s (IPS FHD + Classic Keyboard), X32 (IPS Screen)
Retired: X61 7673-V2V, A31p w/ Ultrabay Numpad
Past: Z61t 9440-A23, T60 2623-D3U, X32 2884-M5U
