Having problems with Laplink

I am trying to use a crossover cable cat5e to link my brand new t42 computer (so excited) to my old laptop. But it isn't recognizing the connection. Do I have to do this some other way?

I know..I'm not very tech compared to users on this forum.

Have you setup an Ad-Hoc network on both computers?
