Need some HELP from some experienced people.....

#1 Post by midnight08 » Fri Jan 08, 2010 6:01 pm

as some of you know from a previous topic that i posted, I had a nightmare repair here in Gainesville, Florida.....

Reference this topic:http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=83264

The company is supposedly going to be giving me all of my "Original" parts back. I don't find this likely as he showed me the back room of his place and there are boxes upon boxes of mobo's from various computers all in the same box... What i think will probably end up happening is that he will find some motherboard that is supposed to be the same as mine as well as the RAM, mobo fan, wireless card, bluetooth/modem card, etc.... I will be needing some help verifying that these parts are the same parts that are supposed to be in my computer.

Also, I told him that i want to have all of the parts that i am receiving back to be verified by a separate person to be in proper working order... and that the mobo that i receive back has the same problems (micro-fractures in the soldering) that it had when i came in with it... he then proceeded to tell me that a broken mother board is a broken mother board....... i told him that it better have the same problems and nothing more or he will have to replace it... same with all of the other parts that i am supposed to be getting back... i told him that they have to be in proper running condition or he will be replacing them....

So who here knows of a reputable place (it would be great if it was in florida) that i can give my parts to have them verified in proper working order. also a reputable person that can get my T43p fixed and running properly. It is the beginning of my last college semester and i need to get this thing up and running properly.

Please let me know if you know a reputable place that can be trusted and will help me get my computer back to running properly......

Thank You in advance,
Justin

Every IBM part has an identifying number of the form nnAnnnn. They also often have Field Replaceable Unit (FRU) numbers that can be different but still have the format nnAnnnn (n is a digit and A is an alpha character).

If you get the repair manual for the T43/p through Lenovo there is a parts list for the T43 and you can look up numbers that are used.

The manual can be downloaded here:

Wish I could help you with a repair tech.

Good luck.

In the interest of helping out a student, and if you want to trust a stranger, I'd be willing to put that machine back together. Labor would be free...you'd have to buy a new systemboard and pay for shipping both ways. I have many years experience with Thinkpad repair (probably more than most) and live in NY. Send me a PM if you are interested. I may even start a project on the forum with pictures and narrative. We'll call it "Help a Starving Student get a Thinkpad Project". I wouldn't be surprised if donations were made ...;) We recently sent a very nice X41 to a soldier in Afganistan due to generous donations from many members here. .

Harry, I would greatly appreciate the help! I am still waiting to get my "original" parts back from this guy. he said he was going to call me tomorrow to tell me what all he has found... I am not very hopeful that the parts that i recieve back will be in very good condition as the way that he has his RAM stored is in a Tupperware box that slides in and out and when he opens that drawer, they all rub up against each other. the mobo was most likely thrown around and severly miss treated. The processor is probably shot. etc... the list goes on. once i receive all of these parts back from him, i will need to send them off to someone to have that person verify that the parts are actually good or not. if that person tells me that the parts are bad... i will go back to him and give him a quote from IBM parts for a new part directly from IBM.

I think there are going to be lots of miscellaneous things missing from the computer. plastic pieces inside that hold parts are missing etc....

I wouldn't mind shipping the computer to someone that is knowledgeable about these machines and can tell me exactly what needs repair and replacing. however, i do not have nearly enough money due to tuition, books, etc coming up to piece this computer back together if it is in that far off shape....

I will shoot you a PM soon about this.

Thank you all.
