T42 partition

#1 Post by ranchmom5 » Sat Jan 09, 2010 2:32 pm

Hi,

New T42 that has 2 partitions. Had a lot of trouble with another T42 configured this way so want to merge partitions - only have one C drive with all the HDD space allocated to it. How do I do this?

I have everything that was on the partition D moved to C at this time...except for a folder "PreBoot". It says I cannot replace or create PREBOOT: Access is denied

Was able to drag the PREBOOT folder to "Shared Documents" on C and it did copy it there.

What OS are you using?

In Windows XP or 2000 you can log on with Administrator privileges, open up Settings. Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and Computer Management, then Disk Management. You will be able to see all the partitions. You can delete the extra partition and "stretch" the main partition to include the extra space. Note that the partitions you delete cannot have any data in them.

Not sure how to do this with Linux.

I am running XP. I went to disk management but can't figure a way to get unallocated/free space onto C drive.

I also downloaded Easeus partition master, but my problem seems to be that their order is
C IBM Preload, NTFS 24.87G
*, FAT32, 4.6G
D: CPAdata, NTFS 26.42

I can resize D and it leaves unallocated space, but I cannot put the unallocated space onto C because the FAT32 is in between the C and D drives. Seems the only way to extend C is to have it right next to the unallocated space. Is that FAT32, 4.6G partition the TP recovery partition??

Any advice?

From your description, your recovery partition (FAT32 between C and D) is shot anyway.
So you might as well delete it, using e.g. Easeus PM.
Then tell Easeus to resize C and include that free space after C.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Thanks....figured out just before you posted this that I could delete D, give the unallocated space to the FAT32, then resize it and the unallocated comes up next to C. C is now 52G, FAT is still there but D is gone.

Thanks to all for the help
