Help on my T42 15" LCD outer lid/case

#1 Post by CChoi83 » Mon Feb 21, 2005 12:51 am

Hey everyone,

I have a slight problem. I was on my laptop last night and I noticed while looking at my TP that from a certain angle, there is a very small (approx 1/2 centimeter) crack on the top left hand corner. It starts from where the inner LCD frame and the outer frame meet and extends along the corner outword. I've called IBM to see if I can get a replacement lid but they say that it is not a user servicable part. I'd have to either send it in or bring it over to a IBM Authorized repair center to have the lid replaced. Another thing is that in the T42/P hardware maintenance file, my model is not listed in the 15" SXGA+ IPS TFT section. My model is a 2379-R9U. So basically, I need the LCD backplate/lid/cover (or whatever else you want to call it. Is it possible that I can obtain this part and replace it myself?

On another note, just ordered the 802.11a/b/g Mini-PCI Adapter II. I'll see how that goes against my current 2200BG adapter.

Thanks in advance everyone. Kudos.

Best regards,
Chris

Why not simply visit a Support Center and let them do it, takes probably about 30 minutes, call ahead and ask them if they have the part there.

Doesn't tampering yourself with the LCD violate warranty anyways?

Yeah, I'll most probably go visit a Authorized Support Center. As for voiding the warranty, I have no idea and that's why I was asking. Thanks for the reply though. I need as much help as I can get as this is the first time I will be dealing with IBM support. Thanks.

Support is just people working for IBM, they don't actually care about what they have to change, it's not their money.

I always suggest to call ahead, and never give your laptop to them if the part isn't there yet, not that anything would happen, but why not use it while you're waiting too :)
Replacing something takes max an hour, LCD took 30 minutes when I went there.

Good service, nice people, atleast those whom I've met.

PS: Put a password on your HDD, just in case :)

Better yet, leave your HDD at home.
