The fan has been removed. The CPU part# is SL7SL, which is a 2.13Ghz Pentium 770 (533Mhz). Definitely the wrong CPU for this board. It is the original CPU that came with the T43.

The 1.7 Banias transplant was a success. The new Palm rest is installed. There were a few missing screws that have been replaced. The machine is currently being loaded with a factory T42 preload. It is in excellent condition and should sell well. It has some nice extras like a 7200rpm 7K100, a multiburner, and an SXGA+ LCD. Needs a T42 Clearplate set (with wifi). That's it.

I'll be able to provide a set of those by the end of next week...if that's not too far away.

Ok next - Listing parts to be sold.

1.) T43P Systemboard, probably needs reflowing or reballing, possibly non-functional - FRU 42T0067
2.) CPU 2.13Ghz Pentium M 770 Dothan SL7SL 533Mhz - Tested, working
3.) Used T43 Palm Rest with Ultranav and FPR. Has a small mark where too long of a screw was used, but otherwise fully functional and in nice shape.
4.) 2 X 6 cell T4X batteries, FRU# 08K8193 and 92P1091 (both to be tested)
5.) 2 X 512MB PC2-4200, (1) Hynix, (1) Samsung
6.) BMDC card, FRU# 39T0026

Noted your dibs George. There is a logistical problem with the sale of the parts and the machine...as in they are not mine :). So I need to get some guidance from the owner first. Will let you know.

Very nice work Harry. I'd say those are some nice parts. After everything is sold off, the OP should have a choice of T60 machines - 14", 15" or maybe even 15.4".

That CPU is a nice uprade for T43, R52, Z60t or Z60m machines.

Also, maybe email Dale at Superior Reball, he might want to buy the mobo outright.

Ed, thanks for the comments. I'll mention superior reball to the OP.

The Intel 802.11b WiFi card that was in the machine is defective. It made the machine stutter and it would hardly connect to my home network. I installed the Intel PW 2915abg card in the machine and am testing it now. So...into the trash with one 802.11b mPCI card. Also, the 'repair guy' had the main and aux wires crossed.

The the Intel PW 2915abg card tests and works fine. Also, I checked out the LCD image and screen condition using a white back ground. It is perfect. Setup Mobile meter. CPU temp at idle is 35C at 600Mhz....that's the Arctic Silver 5 kicking in with Intel speedstep.

I spoke too soon on the Intel 2915 card. It loses signal on downloads. I can sit there and watch the signal drop and come back. The result is very slow downloads. I tried both the latest Intel and Lenovo drivers..no luck. I think this card is bad as well. Just as a sanity check on the router I fired up another 802.11g laptop and it works fine on the same router. I suppose it could also be a pinched, shorted, or broken antenna wire.

Edit: PC Doctor 5 tests show 100% pass if I am not downloading something, but shows signal loss and a failure on the TCP/IP Network Communication test if I run it during a download. This is the weirdest thing ...

Edit 1: Running PC Doctor on the complete machine now ...
Edit 2: All PC-Doctor tests pass.

Harryc:

Don't throw any network cards in the trash until you've ruled out a socket problem on the main board. Rare, but I had an intermittant problem on a T42 recently. Went around in circles on that one for a long time.

Thanks Paul..haven't tossed anything yet. Hopefully will have a third card within the week to test. If that also fails then we'll look at antennas and sockets. Now that I think about it I have a new set of antenna leads around here somewhere that could be hooked up to test with.

Harry, have you figured out the wireless card situation? The "repair guy" doesn't want to work with me about getting a new wireless card.

Thanks,
Justin

Harry, it's a little odd to have two bad wifi adapters. Maybe you could try to boot from a Ubuntu CD or memory stick and see how the adapters perform...just to rule out any XP issues.

If they don't work, just PM me your address, I can send you an adapter.

Ed, I tried a Mint Live CD and still had basically the same issues. I even disabled wireless encryption thinking that might be a factor...it wasn't. Thanks for the adapter offer, I'll PM you my address. If it doesn't fix the problem I'll mail it back.

Received the cards from Ed today. The problem is not an mPCI card problem. It still fails with the new card. Trying antennas next ...

Harry,

I have a complete 14" lid with antennae, inverter and cable for a SXGA+ T43. Let me know if it's needed.

Check your PM in 2 mins... :D

Maybe also check the ethernet cable input, perhaps wires are crossed/bent? Dirt in it?

Thanks George and RBS. Well it definitely was not the antenna set. I hooked up a brand new out of the package X200 antenna array and it failed the same way. So I took the mPCI card out of it's socket, got out my canned air, blew the slot out, then reseated the card hard..and now it's working. Will continue to test for several hours to make sure, but I think we've got it. If it fails again it's a bad slot.

When you say "failed" you are referring to the wireless, correct? How does it exactly behave?

Maybe the slot needs a better cleaning? A little alcohol? (I'd try Linux again, too.)

If not, all is not lost, I can send you a PC Card G adapter. Just let me know.

The 'slot' is maybe a mm opening, probably smaller. What would you use to clean it? Something like a QTip would be 2 to 3 times too large.
