How determine maximum memory?

#1 Post by Joseph_N » Wed Jan 13, 2010 12:28 pm

My ThinkPad 43/p (M/T 2687) came with 512Mb RAM, and I added 1Gb. Now, I'd like to switch out the 1Gb if I can find a compatible memory component with more RAM, so I can run a SQL server better off the laptop. How can I find out the maximum amount of memory that would be functional, beyond which the computer's I/O and other components could not even handle the difference?

All you can do is swap the 512MB DIMM with a 1GB, since the chipset limitation on T4x machines is 2GB.

Is that something that I could do myself (reasonably fine-fingered, but never been inside a laptop before)? Is it something that someone else could do with a probability of not screwing things up? My understanding was that the supplied memory was not a customer replaceable part....
