T43p without HDD

#1 Post by dingoblue » Wed Jan 13, 2010 6:21 pm

I have inherited a T43p 2668-H2U without the HDD but with COA. (Original Specs: P M 770 (2.13GHz), 1 GB RAM, 60GB 7200rpm HD, 15in 1600x1200 LCD, 128MB ATI FireGL V3200, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11bg wireless, Bluetooth/Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, 9c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro).

No doubt the 7200 HDD was removed for parts at some point. The machine powers up fine. I had thought to use it to supplement my T42p 2373-C96 but am at loss as to how to obtain the T43p sw info on a HDD. I doubt that I can use the t42p as a clone.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. BTW, I am an old forum member from my 600x days but they (2) have been chugging away with no real issues for several years. They have lasted longer than my old Forum log-in!

Welcome, or welcome back, to the forum.

Your T43p is probably out of warranty. Had it been in warranty you could say to IBM that you have a HDD problem and they'd ship you recovery disks. (It is worth checking the serial number just in case warranty hasn't expired.)

If I were you I'd probably download a Linux distro and free myself of Windows for ever more. It is that or pay Messrs Gates and Co for another licence as I doubt the COA will be worth anything without the HDD.

Maybe I am wrong, in which case some boffin that knows more about these things will be along in due course.

Anyway, good luck matey. :)

Thanks for the note. I have XP and Win 7 that can be installed. My concern is obtaining the T43p partition/machine specific info for the drive I obtain.
