Will T42 HD boot in T40 ?

#1 Post by hertfordnc » Fri Jan 15, 2010 12:34 pm

My T42 has a bad motherboard.

I have an opportunity to get a T40 with a bad HD (cheap)

Will the drive boot up? If not, what's the best path to get it up and working without losing files?

Maybe a Linux boot CD to get access to the drive and move files to a jump drive ?

THanks

Yes the T40 mobo will work with the T42 HD.

There may be a number of drivers you need to update which you can get from here.

It's possible that the the T42 was fitted with the faster Dothan CPU (they'll have 7 in the chip part number rather than a 6 for the Banias CPU) rather than the slower Banias in the T40 series and I'd fit that as well.
If so, update to the latest BIOS firmware via XP so the T40 board recognises the Dothan CPU.

Also the T42 memory will work fine in the T40 board as well.
