#1 Post by t410s » Wed Jan 20, 2010 2:11 pm

Hi

The new Thinkpad T410 comes with a E SATA port nice from Lenovo, but why there build no eSATA-USB combo port as well, as another notebook manufacture do this?

What the hell are THINKING Lenovo !!!

And what if you need to use both an eSATA and a USB port?
The other company was so cheap that they only gave you one port instead of two.
Now who is stupid?

I just took a look at picture of a 410 from Lenovo's website. According to this, the 410 has 3 USB 2.0 ports on one side, and one single powered USB 2.0 port on the other side, in addition to the single eSata port. So your complaint is basically that Lenovo didn't give you the opportunity of a total of 5 ports you can use as USB ports?

I also need to mention that the 510 only has 3 USB ports, but this laptop HAS an eSata/USB combo port to make it a total of 4. That is the case with 410S as well. So it seems to me that Lenovo thinks a total of 4 USB ports is enough, and didn't put a combo port on the 410 to make 5 ports. Seems fair to me. If you need to connect 5 USB devices to the laptop at the same time, most users will probably use a USB hub no matter how many ports their laptop have available. Both for the simplicity of the plugging/unplugging and to avoid cables peeking out of all sides of the laptop.

So I really don't see this as a problem and a sign of Lenovo being stupid.

There isn't good standard chipset support for true Powered eSATA ports at this time, and very few laptops include the true functionality, as it requires additional hardware. Later in the year it will be available in the standard chipsets and you can expect to see it everywhere

Lenovo has been honest about not calling the eSATA with USB power port (the blue one in your picture) a Powered eSATA port, but other laptop suppliers have not been as scrupulous.

Some real research is indicated on your part before going off half-cocked. :BAAAD!:
