No Page File

Win XP pro, booting up get error message " Your system has no page file" etc.
Have tried all the obvious solutions but the pagefile.sys never shows up where its supposed to be on c: Windows makes one on its own but its only 256

There's lots out there on this, with this website being typical; in summary:

Not enough RAM

Problem with an unsigned driver - run sigverif.exe using the instructions here.
