T42 DVD-R

can someone tell me what DVD formats the DVD-R drive supports (the one coming with the T42's)? and what the speeds are for reading and writing to different formats of CDs and DVDs ...

also does anyone know about how long in time say 2X DVD write speed translates to for a full 4.7GB disk?

http://www-132.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/store ... lCurrId=73 has the details. In short, it writes DVD-R/RW/RAM, but not DVD+R/RW. The positive (so to speak) thing about the negative format is that DVD-R is usually readable in most DVD players. I have a 5-year-old Toshiba SD1600 and it reads DVDs from my T42's burner just fine.


I have not burnt a full DVD yet, but a 2.5GB one takes around 20 minutes. So scale up the timings from there.

Mofongo- that link doesn't have any of the write speeds ... how fast is CD-R write? is it 16x or 24x ?
