Error 2010 with Samsung HM160HC drive upgrade
Dear Community,
I have just got hold of a Samsung HM160HC drive to upgrade the 40Gb drive that came as standard with my aging T43 (to try and breathe a little more lifespan into the fellow). On fitting the drive I receive the Error 2010 at POST. Now, I've seen quite quickly on looking this up throughout the web that its a minefield for people updating their drives and only certain hard disks will get through an updated v1.29 BIOS without flagging this error - but most comments on this are aged now.
Therefore, may I ask whether anyone has managed to get a (what I now realise is) non-standard drive, particularly the HM160HC, to work without giving this error and if so, how I could go about it? And if I do, what might the consequences be from a data integrity perspective (not understanding whether this error is something I need to be concerned about)? If it all appears I've got burned with choosing this drive, can you recommend the easiest drive of similar size to get hold of that will be guaranteed to work, so I can keep my little T43 flying along for a while longer.
Many thanks in anticipation,
Simon
*Stop Press* Have just seen the 'Problems with Non-Thinkpad Option Drives...' note above, which I will trawl through now, but if anyone has a particular solution for the HM160HC, I'd be grateful for a nudge in the right direction. Thanks.

Re: Error 2010 with Samsung HM160HC drive upgrade
There is no solution for the 2010 boot error for that drive. The error will not cause any harm to your data, and in the later BIOS's for the T43 there is an option to bypass the error without human intervention. It will still beep and throw up the error screen, but you won't have to press a key to bypass it.

Harry, what is that option called in the bios and what do you set it to?Harryc wrote:There is no solution for the 2010 boot error for that drive. Burns334,
Enter the BIOS (F1), then enter 'Startup' menu, then ensure that the option 'Boot after message for HDD compatibility...' is set to 'Continue' rather than 'Pause'.
Best,
Simon
