T42 Touchpad forgets settings

After playing around with the alternative touchpad driver that allows 2-finger scrolling, I recently reverted to Synaptics driver for Thinkpad Ultranav Pointing Device, version 11.1.21.2

I disable tapping, but periodically it forgets this and tapping is enabled again.

Any suggestions?

I have the exact same problem on a T41 running Windows, and it is driving me nuts. Is there really no solution to this? I mean apart from having to reset the settings in the ultranav configuration.
