I used to have a 600X myself .. but my listing only includes the boxes here that I worked on, and sadly most of the Legacy machines were before my time here.Leon wrote:great pics MobileGuru..... btw, you say "IF IT SAYS THINKPAD - I HAVE IT!", but I don't see the 600 series on your list.... I've got a 600X (in addition to my T42), and it's STILL going strong.....

The new G41 comes without it on most models, in fact on the boxes with the upgraded Nvidia chipsets don't have the room for a floppy so the port is actually blocked off.jeeva wrote:BTW iis there no Floppy drive in the G41 anymore, afaik the G40 had one.

Y'know what I find funny? That an IBM employee started this thread and got an answer from another IBM employee! (Or am I assuming too much here?)
I figured that Steve007 would have had just as much access to new TP hardware as anyone else in this forum who might happen to work for IBM, but I guess not?!

Well I don't know for sure if he works for IBM .. but you may just be correct on your assumption about me ..
.. not everyone in the Big Blue has access to new hardware, and certainly very few in such abundant quantity or advance release.

The primary problem is that Steve is in the UK which, as far as IBM products are concerned, is almost at the end of the pipeline. (The EU is at the very end!)MobileGuru wrote:Well I don't know for sure if he works for IBM .. but you may just be correct on your assumption about me .... not everyone in the Big Blue has access to new hardware, and certainly very few in such abundant quantity or advance release.
We have an abundance of Thinkpad models in NA that have never and will never see the light of day overseas. Even on those occasions where they are available in the UK, we had them months earlier than they.
Even Guru is about a month behind Armonk/RTP in getting his hands on these units.

Pretty much on the money there .. by the time I place my order for the advanced release prototypes and get them across our border through horrific customs, it is typically a few weeks between myself and RTP.JHEM wrote:MobileGuru wrote:Even Guru is about a month behind Armonk/RTP in getting his hands on these units.

can you share some pix of the X32, X41, R53 with us?
But i heard from a IBM source that IBM will never produce a tablet PC.
Can you convince us with the opposite by posting some specs or pics?
thx

Here is the answer of your question, which I already asked.MobileGuru wrote:No I have not posted them yet. I am just waiting for the arrival of my 15" model since the 14.1 I got was not complete. Cross your fingers because I should have my tablet in soon too!

I get all the relevant information as and when it's produced but I don't always get the new products sent out to me.NathanA wrote:I figured that Steve007 would have had just as much access to new TP hardware as anyone else in this forum who might happen to work for IBM, but I guess not?!
I was one of the first to get my hands on the T40 (Jan/Feb 2003 I believe) but for some reason no T43 models have made their way over here yet. The T43 isn't available until March for customers but hopefully I'll be able to have a look at one later this month
There are some benefits being at the end as any problems with hardware/software are ironed out before they come to usJHEM wrote:The primary problem is that Steve is in the UK which, as far as IBM products are concerned, is almost at the end of the pipeline. (The EU is at the very end!)

What pisses me off is that on the US website you can practically build your own ThinkPad with the components you want which is superb - we don't have that facility here. But to be fair with have just about every possible configuration available - at a cost. ThinkPad's and particularly ThinkPad accessories are not cheap here but in my opinion the laptops are worth paying a premium for as they are the best there is.
Re: T43 photos?
honestly, this looks like a fake photo. could be ibm just didn't want to shoot another photo, but the 3 in the 43, is not uniform with the 4. It is askew, differant depth and resolution.Steve007 wrote:
All I've found is this one below and it just looks like another T4x model from that photo!

When Intel anounced the Sonoma platform at end of January, they gave a presentation of the new notebook featuring the new chipset. They were in Munich, London, Paris with about 30 different Sonoma notebooks. Among them a Thinkpad T43.
I had in my hands, didn't see any difference to the regular T40 design. So it seems to be the same mold, just the motherboard is different.
Probably, IBM had found the final design of their Thinkpads for coming years.
Interesting would be the X50, which is supposed to be a tablet PC, based on a modified X41 design, based on the next-generation chipset.
That's what I was told. There is another X32 coming, btw.
So, by summer most new Sonomas will be out. Not much difference to the current T4x series.
