T22 2647-7EG memory upgrade query, speed related.

I was lucky enough recently to get hold of the above model TP at a knock down price , very pleased (newbie to IBM, ex D*ll user). Currently, RAM = 2x128MB original IBM 144 pin SODIMM at PC100.

(edited, changed to PC100, not PC133)

I already managed to upgrade the HDD to a 7200rpm 60GB XP Pro, SP2 running nicely too.

Now, I fancy upgrading the RAM, but wondering if, like some "big" PC mobo's, the TP will handle higher speed RAM and auto clock it down. eg : PC2700 or PC3200, both of which are cheaper for 256MB on eBay than the PC100 ???

I read another thread re the T20, which limited to PC100, and wonder if the same situation is relevant to the T22 ?

no, the pinout of ddr memory is different... pc66-133 is 144 pin, pc 2100-3300 is 200 pin... besides the interface difference

Yeah... t22 is a 100mhz bus system, many pc133 chips are high density which the t22 will reject (440bx chipset)

Just keep looking, i found a 256 stick for my x20 for 61 shipped on ebay... it was even an IBM part

Actually, you want PC100 memory for your T22, not PC133, and it has to be low-density memory in the 256MB sticks. You can readily tell low-density memory as it will have eight memory chips on each side of the stick for a total of sixteen chips.
