New fan an easy job?

#1 Post by JerzeeDevil » Mon Jan 25, 2010 11:27 pm

How hard is it to replace a T43 fan? Is it just a few screws and click the connector and does the keyboard have to come out?

Keyboard must be removed.

Three screws on the fan.

Don't forget to re-apply the thermal paste.

All described in the HMM:

The laptop is a few years old. Is it a good idea to replace the fan after 4 or 5 years or if it's not broke don't fix it?

After 4 or 5 years, if the fan still works without making any obvious scraping, rattling or whining noises, the only reason why I would disturb it would be to renew the thermal grease. That and maybe clean off the dust and gunk that has accumulated on the fan's blades.
