Installing W2k

#1 Post by Rex » Tue Feb 22, 2005 1:47 pm

Hi there,

I have both a T20 and T22. The T22 is used a lot and I want to up-grade from W98SE to W2k. I don't mind going the dual boot route but when I have W2k up and running and all my programs installed, I would like to get rid of the W98SE partition (currently C:/) and have W2k on C:/

Apparently, even if I made a Ghost image of W2k (which would probably be on D:/) I could not restore that to C:/ as all the paths would be wrong.

So I thought, if I install W2k onto my T20, get most/all of the programs up and running, make a Ghost image to CD and then restore that image file to my T22.

Would this work? I can see that some of the hardware would be different and that W2k may not work. But may be I could then up-grade using IBM Update Connector.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Rex

Yes, you should be able to pull this off. But, I *highly* recommend, almost to the point of demanding if I could, that you not install any drivers whatsoever. Almost undoubtedly do not do the IBM or any other graphics drivers as this will at minimum require you to boot using safe mode to fix things up. If you install any specialized chipset drivers it will make your life even more miserable going through and fixing all the devices. Other than that, best of luck to you.

lfeagan,

Thanks for your reply.

Do you mean, clean install W2k and programs onto my T20, Ghost the partition and restore to my T22 before getting drivers, etc on the T22?

This is starting to sound complex!
