Maybe someone can advise what is happeing. I just purchased a used t40 with a 40gb drive. I also have a t23 with a 40gb drive. Since I have been using the t23 and have alot of programs and files that I didnt want to transfer onto the new system, I figured that I would just swap the 2 drives and be done with it.
after installing the drive from the T23, I went to bios setup it reconized the drive and then saved changes and started to boot up.
It got past the post and hit the hard drive, I could faintly see the windows sp logo on the screen then BAM!, the blue screen of death popped up, said something about a virus and it was shutting down to protect the ???.
And it shut down ad started to reboot again.
I tried to pause the screen when the blue death popped up again but could not. I then went to the bios and set the diag mode. Again i rebooted got past the post and as it was reading the windows files (scrolling down the screen) the blue death screen came up again.
Now I'm freaking out, thinking that I screwed up my hard drive (the one with the files I want). I then put the hard drives back into there respected computers and now everything is back to square one and working.
Does the T40 have a routine in the bios to check for viruses??
I was running MCkafee on my T23 and I scanned the hd but no issues popped up.
What to do next???

Re: hard drive issues
No virus there, and no big issues...
The hardware between a T2x and T4x is very different, and you can't just put the drive from one into the other.

Re: hard drive issues
Bummer
I thought that the same hard drive and operating system would work.
How about a back up and restore?
There has to be a easy way to get my files from one to the other.
Isnt there?????

Re: hard drive issues
Attach the T23 drive to the target T40 machine with a USB to IDE adapter or an external enclosure and transfer the files you want to.
