The T42 "double sleeve"

#1 Post by Zip » Tue Feb 22, 2005 7:48 pm

Hi all, new here (although a longtime Thinkpad user)

I was fortunate enough to acquire a new T42 last month (2373K1U, 14.1" 6 battery), and immediately set out to find a good bag or sleeve to protect it. As luck would have it, eBags had a sale going on, and a good selection, so sleeve hunting I went.

Two of the offerings that caught my eye were the Sumdex Laptop Sleeves (regular & large size) & the TechWeave Laptop Protector.

I should probably pause here to mention that in addition to the T42, I have an old faithful 770ED which I plan to use for other purposes, and could also use a sleeve.

Unable to narrow it down further (between the 2 Sumdexes & the Techweave), I did the only sensible thing...I bought all three. And a good thing I did, here's what I found:

The 770ED fits perfectly in the Techweave, but this is the T forum, so let's get to the good part:

The 14.1" T42 fits perfectly inside the regular Sumdex sleeve, and the T42 IN THE Sumdex sleeve, fits perfectly inside the Large Sumdex sleeve. So the net result of the Duplex Sumdex (Sumdex Duplexii?) It's a perfect enclosure for the T42 with twice the padding of anything else I have seen. If space becomes a problem (or you don't want to appear to geeky w/r/t your TP) simply use the smaller sleeve, but for general knocking about, or tossing it in the car, two sleeves are better than one!

:o

Now I have a few questions about what to do about the software in my new T42, but will save those for another thread.

Again, great site yall have here, hope to learn & maybe contribute a bit.

so far have been very pleased with the K1U, but have really not had it long enough to thoroughly wring it out (just delivered a week ago). I found the screen size to be perfectly afequate for my 40-something eyes. I decided on an older model with a separate graphics card over a newer model with integrated graphics, because I feel the (seperate) card has a significant impact on performance. HTH

I suppose that would depend on whose backpack it is and what size "medium" is.

If you go back and click on the descriptions at eBags, they do list the outside dimensions of both sleeves.

eBags has free shipping for order $25 or more. Just order as many as you like to try. You can return anything for free, they pay the shipping to send it back.

The single small case arrived to day (quick delivery!). I've been searching for a product like this since I got my TP early this month. The construction quality is high and is made out of solely nylon. The logo is discreet and looks nice unlike some other cases. I'm not sure about the extended battery but it fits my ThinkPad 14.1" like a glove. IMO it'd be a better idea to get only the small case and consider a dedicated larger bag if you need extra pockets for things like legal pads and folders. A great back pack to team the small pack up with is the TNF Bandwidth: http://www.backcountry.com/store/TNF061 ... cu-in.html. It has a neophrane back panel and a suspended sling to hold your notebook internally as well as a good selection of pockets in the cargo area for adapters and such.
