Wrong replacement hard drive for a T40

#1 Post by Knoxes » Thu Feb 04, 2010 9:27 pm

I believe, even after doing what I thought was sufficient research on here, that I've bought the wrong replacement product. I have a T40 23736U0.

I bought one of these:

Unfortunately, I've already EZ cloned it. I didn't think to pull the original out and check compatibility before I cloned the new drive. First, is there anything I can do with this new drive other than use it as a backup? Secondly, I would sincerely appreciate someone pointing out where I went wrong (still haven't figured that out) and I would really appreciate some explicit instructions on what to buy - I need about 100-160G.

Welcome to the forum,

You bought a SATA drive, the t4x use the older PATA/EIDE interface. Your best bet would be to pick up a 20$ external enclosure and use it as a backup drive.

Any PATA drive will work, it is the older standard.

Good luck

Furthermore, you can pick up a SATA Ultrabay Slim adapter on eBay and use that drive in the media drive slot.
