T23 Direct3D in Win2k

Hi,
I'm new to this forum and I posted this question in the "windows" forum but did not get ans answer, so far. I have tried to get DirectX 8 and 8.1 working on my T23 under Win2k but always got an error message that Direct3D won't work. I did Dxdiag and indeed the Direct3D tests failed with an error message "not enough video memory".

I have the latest available video-driver (12.90.20) from the IBM-website installed and also tried de-installation/installation of DirectX and/or the video driver. I deactivated Norton Antivirus, the firewall I'm using and other memory-resident programs without a change. I also did a complete fresh installation of Win2k on a seperate harddisk, added the multimedia-drivers for the T23 (sound, video, ...) but no further add-ons or applications and tried to get DirectX8.1 working there - no success. PC-Doctor from IBM reposts no problems with my video card after an extensive test.

Somewhere in the version history of the supersavage driver is stated that DirectX8 support was added. This driver works for both, Win2k and WinXP, so I wonder, whether this videocard is capable to handle Direct3D in WinXP only. Any suggestions and ideas?

To answer your question, it is possible to run DirectX 8 in a T23 under Win2K. I have a T23 (check for specs in my signature) which is running DirectX 8.0 (4.08.00.0400). As far as I remember, this is the configuration that it came loaded with from IBM. And, everything seems to be working fine here.

I would imagine you could just try to see if you can get a hold of this DirectX build (I don't know if 8.0 has more than one build, but I assume so), and try installing it. If that fails, and it is not a big deal, you might just try to return the HD to factory settings and try from scratch.

DirectX 9 is working great on my T22 under both Win2K and XP Pro no installation problems.

thanks for the answers. I've tried to build my system "from the scratch" on a differernt harddisk, but it did not help. So either I've a defect in the hardware or some conflict in my installation. What I did try, though, is an installation of Win98, and here the Direct3d features work flawlessly. So it seems that my Win2k system is messed up. I really don't want to do a fresh install on my "working" harddisk, because it would take a fair amount of time to have all the applications installed again and get them updated. So I robably have to live with the problem and use the Direct3D demanding applications in my Win98 dual-boot installation. Otherwise the T23 is a great machine (I bought it second-hand a year ago) and it fully covers my needs for MS-Office/Photoshop/CorelDraw/Internet.
