T40 Fingerprint reader

#1 Post by iNFiNiTY125 » Wed Feb 10, 2010 9:35 pm

is it possible to get the fingerprint reader to work on a think-pad t40?

I installed it on to my t40 but the system dose not see it

after a lot of research I found out that it needs to be enabled in the bious

under Security>Fingerprint
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 58298.html

I tryed to change the model number to a t43 but it wont let me change it

is it possible to get this to work.

thanks

No.

Fingerprint reader was originally introduced on higher-end T42/p machines. None of the T40/p and T41/p have the support required. For that fact, most of the standard T42 units don't have it either.

T43/p is the only part of the T4x range that supports the fingerprint regardless of other specs.

2373, 2374, 2378, 2379

you can try one of this sn-types.

but that the old bios dont know the T43 types is self-explanatory

Without knowing the full 7-character model number of the machine (2373-Q1U for instance) it's impossible to say whether it'll support the FPR.

You lost me with USB ports and soldering...

honesty it would be easier to just type my password in... i am most likely going to do that
I am just learning about the think pads more and i over do stuff

I don't know the full model..

my idea:

IBM has usb fpr's
http://www.scannergalaxy.com/showroom/1223.cfm

Can I modify my fingerprint reader to make it work from usb instead of going through the touch pad like the link above?

if so then I will run a cable to my pcmcia usb card and solder it in to it so its clean

is that possible or too much..

by the way: I am new so u guys probably don't know me, but I like to do crazy stuff like that
thanks aging for all your guy's help

The external FPR that is in your link works from USB to begin with...

By the time everything is said and done, you'll wish you'd bought a T43 (not that expensive nowadays) to begin with...
