Hibernation file

#1 Post by ThinkPad » Thu Feb 24, 2005 1:57 am

Is there anyway to recover the 1gig held by the hibernation system?

If you turn off Hibernation (Power Options... Hibernate) , the file is deleted.

I feel your pain. Mine is 1.5 GB.

Here is the strange part. I enabled hibernation a while ago, which took 1 gig. HD went from 10gig to 9 gig. But it never really worked, and the hibernation under power options is disabled, unchecked.... :? Im still missing the 1 gig

Take a look in C:\ on your ThinkPad. If the hibernation file is there, you will see it. I forget the name, but it is obvious and it is large. There is also a large paging file there. If the hibernation file is not there, then the 1Gb went to something else. If it is there, then the system thinks Hibernation is enabled. ... JD Hurst

The file is hiberfil.sys.

That 1 GB of space may have been used up by your system restore function. It may be taking as much as 12% of your C: partition with default settings. Go into the system restore settings and see if that might be it.
